Add/change text hints for toolbar buttons, menu choices

Text hints - often call tip text - are helpful identifiers seen as you roll the mouse cursor over toolbar buttons. Some buttons come with that tip text predefined, as in this example:

In fact, all pull-down menu choices in Worldox can have toolbar button equivalents, so even menu choices not now appearing as toolbar buttons can have tip text elements defined.

Tip:  Pull-down menu names/commands and even keyboard shortcuts for menu commands can also be customized. Toolbars can be changed as well.

Here is how to add or change button tip text.

  1. Right click on the pull-down menu bar at the top of the Worldox screen.

Note:  Right-clicking on toolbar buttons gives you a way to change button names  - the text that appears under buttons when the screen is wide enough to show larger toolbar button sizes. But you cannot change button tip text that way. To change tip text, you have to right-click on the pull-down menu bar.

  1. Select Edit Menu from the right-click menu. That opens the Edit Menu dialog, which lists all menu commands in Worldox.

  2. Note the Tip Text column. Here tip text items list for some - not all - menu commands.

  3. Now scroll down and find the menu command you want to customize. Double-click that listing, or select it, then click Edit in the toolbar. That opens the Menu > Edit dialog.

Note:  There are two version of the Menu > Edit  dialog. Top-level menu names ("Edit", "File", et al.) can be changed, but name changes only. Top-level menu choices do not have tip text or keyboard shortcuts, so the Menu > Edit dialog you see for such choices is simpler.

  1. In the Menu > Edit dialog, type the text hint you want to see in the Tip field, then click .

  2. That returns you to the Edit Menu dialog, where the new or changed text hint lists in the Tip Text column for that menu choice.

  3. Click Save in the Edit menu dialog to save your changes.
