Checking files out - then checking changed files back in - is an essential part of working with Worldox-managed documents off-line.
Checking files into Worldox is a fairly intuitive process, but even experienced users sometimes misjudge the effect of one check-in setting. The problem happens here, on the File > Check-In dialog. This is what you see upon checking in one of more files that have been changed offline:
That third choice sometimes causes confusion. Some Worldox users understand mirroring better than others. In essence, this choice says:
"I want to disregard the changed versions. Please overwrite them with the last versions of these files that Worldox knows about."
The last version of a file would be the file as it was before it was checked out. This choice is probably not what most people want to do, though it is a sensible option under certain conditions. Some users misunderstand and select that third option, thinking that they are replacing the old, pre-check-out versions with the newer ones. In fact, the opposite happens, causing an unwelcome surprise.
If this wording has ever caused misunderstandings for you or your colleagues, then hopefully you will know to avoid it in the future.
Note: There is another option. You could ask your Worldox Administrator to actually reword that third choice in the File > Check-In dialog. (Administrators have the ability to substitute text phrases on Worldox dialogs.)
