What are window styles?

Window styles are saved instructions on how to display various types of Worldox worklists. Each style is actually a collection of individual display settings. You can apply any or all of these display settings categories to a particular worklist. You can also create and save new display settings as needed.

One window style sheet is available for each of eight different list types. For each style sheet, there are four different categories of display settings. Here you see list types on the bottom, display categories on top of the Display > Window Styles > Open dialog:

These same display categories and list types appear on the Display > Window Styles > Save dialog, used to save changed window styles.

Only one style (any combination of style settings) can be saved for each of the eight list types. The types are self-explanatory. Worldox allows you to distinguish between lists generated in different ways. This can be very helpful, as you may choose to arrange and sort search result lists (for example) in a very different way than you might choose to do with lists of project files.

You can make any changes needed for each of the eight list types; changed styles overwrite default styles. There is no way to save multiple styles for any one list type.

A style can be comprised of different style elements - different categories of display settings. For example, you can change column order on a list, then save only the Columns and sort style for the Folder List type. In this example, other style settings are unchanged for that list type, but from then on, any folder list (reached via Direct Access, for example) would show the saved column order and sort.

Window styles are in effect starting points, default settings for how Worldox displays lists.

That default is a starting place only. Once Worldox is installed, your Worldox Administrator can change available column choices, then save those changes as window styles so all users at your site see the same column line-ups on different lists.

Assuming you have the appropriate rights, you may be able to further customize which columns appear on lists and how, by saving and applying window styles for your own workspace, and by defining column templates.

If you have any questions about which columns appear or do not appear on specific lists, please contact your Worldox Administrator.

Tip:  There are some similarities between column templates and window styles, but many more differences. Here's a quick guide to how window styles compare to column templates, so you can decide which is best for various purposes.

Open, apply window styles

  1. Open window styles.

Window styles are accessible in two ways - from the Location bar, or from the Display pull-down menu.

If the Location bar is open, click the Display > Window Styles > Open icon on the right side of the bar:

Or, select Window Styles > Open from the Display pull-down menu. Either action opens the Display > Window Styles > Open dialog.

In the Display > Window Styles > Open dialog:

  1. Specify which styles to apply.

All four style categories are pre-selected in the Load Styles part of the dialog.

Leave all category boxes checked to load saved styles for all categories.

Or, uncheck boxes to specify which category(s) to apply.

  1. Specify the list type.

One choice is always pre-selected in the Per List Type section of the dialog; this selection corresponds to whatever list is actually visible on-screen when you open the dialog.

Example: If you open the Display > Window Styles > Open dialog while looking at a list of search results, Search Results will be pre-selected.

You can apply any style, to any list type. Just click whichever list type style box you want.

  1. Click Open to apply the selected list/style categories.

As this dialog closes, the Worldox screen reloads to display the styles just selected.

Save a window style

  1. Use the left-side navigation panel, search or other tools to find the worklist you need.

  2. With that list visible, make any changes to the list - or to any other part of the screen - you want. Make sure the list and/or application screen is arranged to your satisfaction before saving the  style,

Tip:  You can save column and sort settings - plus three other display categories - as part of a changed window style. For details on what settings are saved, see this overview of window styles.
