• Overview
• To view or change preference elements
• The "best fit" preference, controlling automatic column sizing
A series of preference settings in Worldox can be used to customize and personalize various screen elements. Here are the categories containing display/customization preferences in the Edit > Preferences dialog:
• Comment Options
• File Filter List
• File List Options
• Save As Options
Most display-related preferences are found in the File Filter List category.
Select Preferences > Worldox from the Edit pull-down menu. That opens the Edit > Preferences > Worldox dialog, where preferences are organized into categories.
In the Edit > Preferences > Worldox dialog:
Note: This choice may not be necessary for you. Only Worldox Managers have access to the Everyone tab.
Click a category in the left-side pane to open preferences for that category in the right-side pane. (Here are descriptions of what those preferences control.)
Each preference listing shows the Default setting, and the current setting, if different.
if you want to change a preference setting, double-click that listing to open the Change Value dialog.
In the Change Value dialog:
Set or reset the preference.
Most preferences are Yes/No choices:
• Select Yes or No as appropriate.
• Or, if you remember the default value and want to reset the preference to that default, select Rely on Default Setting.
• Other preferences can be numbers or other values. Enter the choice you want, or select it from the drop-down field.
Click OK to make the change.
Changed preferences typically take effect immediately, as soon as the Change Value dialog closes. If you do not see the expected changes, select About Worldox from the Help pull-down menu. When the About dialog appears, press CTRL + D. Then click Close on the Debug dialog. That reloads Worldox configuration files.
In late 2011, there was a change in how Worldox sizes list columns. In GX2 versions after that time - and in GX3 - Worldox automatically sizes columns to maximize list readability. This "best fit" option had been available for some time via a button at the upper right corner of lists, as shown here:
In that context - as you are viewing a list - best fit is optional. The change was in having Worldox employ best fit automatically as lists opened. One consequence of this change was that manually-resized column settings could no longer be saved as part of defining column templates and window styles. Some customers preferred to retain that ability, so a new Worldox preference was created.
It's the "Column Headers Size Automatically" setting, in the File List Options preference category. As shipped, this preference set to Yes. If you would prefer to control and apply column sizing manually - and have the access rights to change preferences settings, here is how you make that change:
Select Preferences > Worldox from the Edit pull-down menu. That opens the Edit > Preferences > Worldox dialog, where preferences are organized into categories.
In the Edit > Preferences > Worldox dialog:
Note: This choice may not be available to you. Only Worldox Managers have access to the Everyone tab.
Click the File List Options category in the left-side pane to open preferences for that category in the right-side pane. (Here are descriptions of what those preferences control.)
Double-click the Column Headers Size Automatically listing to open the Change Value dialog.
In the Change Value dialog:
Set or reset the preference.
• Select Yes or Rely on Default Setting to have Worldox automatically size columns for best fit as lists open.
• Or, select No to leave column sizing a strictly manual process.
Note: Setting this preference to No means you can save column sizes as part of creating column templates and window styles.
