Appendix A: Information Manager (or Knowledge Management) in Law Firms

Knowledge Management isn't exactly a coherent or widespread application today but rather a wide mix of applets. For some people it is a business objective and for others it is a concept. The organization or firm must make the information residing in its databases, file servers, web pages, emails, (ERP & CRM) available which will be a huge challenge due to security and bureaucratic reasons, among others.

While Hummingbird/PC DOCS have a KM product in the marketplace today it has:

	Approximately 50 installations.
	A high entry cost of $100,000 (which means it can scare away many prospects who need a lower dollar threshold to get into an application that is new, essentially unformed - in short, an R&D mission);

In law firms in England, KM via Hummingbird/PC DOCS has had some success. One firm who believes "it is the first UK law firm to develop a legal KM portal to be rolled out on a practice wide basis across the firm," (we'll refer to as "London Law Firm,") has only "completed development work and extensive pilot testing" as of November 2000. We have addressed this firm's functionality in Attachment A herein. As you will see, it is in many ways equivalent to the functionality currently operational in WORLDOX. Given Hummingbird's head start and time in the field, we believe they have not established their product as a widely successful application in law firms. Therefore, there is an "open window" for competition such as WORLDOX.

To our knowledge, iManage has not reported many firms using KM applications with their product.

Long term, World Software's WORLDOX as a legal Document Management System is better positioned to address this market than its competitors because of its unique focus on law firms. Also, WORLDOX search engine, ISYS, is used in Knowledge Management and Litigation Support applications in 48 of the top 150 law firms in the U.S. See "Attachment B" for this list. In time we intend to expand the existing ISYS implementation in WORLDOX to encompass other functionality available in their SDK and also to their three other products (ISYS Web, ISYS Web Crawler, ISYS Imaging). See Attachment C for additional ISYS functionality. We may also add other search engines like Google to the mix to avail the user of more web pages.

	"Outline Browsing" for Web sites is a standard ISYS feature which delivers only the portions of documents surrounding the key words specified. For example, within the same sentence, with the preceding or following sentences, within the same paragraph, etc.
