WORLDOX® Announces New WORLDOX/Web
(Ridgewood,
New Jersey) December 21, 1999 – WORLDOX®, the award-winning
document management software for law firms, has announced the roll-out
of a new type of document manager: WORLDOX/Web, a Web browser-based
document retrieval system.
"We’re
very excited by the tremendous capabilities WORLDOX/Web has shown
in the initial installations," said WORLDOX president Tom Burke.
"This is secure, easy access to your documents from anywhere
at anytime. All you need is an Internet connection and a browser
to find your documents and do your work."
"We’ve
had the new WORLDOX/Web component installed for a couple of weeks
now," says Stephen Hogan at Ross & Hardies, a Chicago firm
with offices in New York and Washington, D.C., "and I have
to tell you it has surpassed the expectations of all of us here,
even our hard-to-please staff. . . . We are especially impressed
with the ability to search as thoroughly and quickly via the Web
as one could from the desktop application, even over the WAN. Checking
documents in and out is simple and efficient. The handy features
of being able to launch a just-downloaded document into Corel or
print it via web page buttons moves the web component into consideration
as a possible replacement for the desktop app in the future."
"Many
people at Cairncross & Hempelmann use remote access technology
to stay in touch with their clients and the firm when they are traveling
or while working at home," says the Seattle firm’s Jim Madden.
"Until recently, however, there was no way to take advantage
of their document management system when remotely connected. Now
that we have installed the new WORLDOX/Web software, they can use
the full functionality of their WORLDOX document management system,
whether at home, on the road, or at the office."
WORLDOX/Web
was specifically developed to allow attorneys to work with their
clients’ documents on the go without changing the location of those
documents – the documents continue to reside on the in-house file
server. "The documents are living in the firm’s own network,
behind the firm’s own firewall," says Burke. "Add to this
our WORLDOX password protection, encryption, SSL protection, and
Read Only designation when someone else is using a file, and its
clear that we’re giving law firms a real measure of security. They
choose who gets access to which documents – and nobody else can
get to them. They’re protecting themselves, protecting their clients,
and still getting hold of the information they need."
WORLDOX/Web
allows remote users with security clearance to search for their
clients’ documents via the Web and view them through instant, formatted
HTML. It also allows for Check-Out/Check-In, which means that when
an attorney is working on a document, it is "checked out"
of the main server, rendering it "Read Only" to anyone
else until the user checks it back in.
Additionally,
the new software allows attorneys to work online with their clients
on a single document or large groups of documents. "WORLDOX/Web
doesn’t require a law firm’s clients to go out and buy software,
or to depend on the slowness and inconsistency of e-mail,"
Burke points out. "With a browser and a password, the client
can jump right in and see what the attorney is doing on a document,
and can work with the attorney to make sure it’s done right."
WORLDOX
has also ensured that the WORLDOX/Web software is completely customizable
– a firm can set WORLDOX/Web up however it chooses to, even giving
it the same look and feel as the firm’s own Web site. The software
works just as well whether the law firm chooses to set it up just
as it comes out of the box, or whether it is customized to be invisible
to the end user. "We’re committed to working the way our customers
want to work," Burke emphasizes.
"In
the future, all server-based applications will have the ability
to be accessed over the Internet," says Cairncross’ Madden.
"The increasing price of office space, coupled with the knowledge
workers' requirement to work where they want will drive the technology
to provide this. The WORLDOX/Web product has already met this goal."
WORLDOX
is a law firm document management system for computers running Windows
95/98/NT. WORLDOX works with NT, Novell, and other networks to facilitate
access to documents for information workers in firms from two to
2,000. WORLDOX integrates seamlessly with Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft’s
Office suite, and many other popular Windows business programs.
Because WORLDOX does not require the extra hardware and upkeep of
SQL systems, it remains the fastest, least expensive document management
system in the legal marketplace. For more information, see www.worldox.com.
