Palmer and Dodge Successfully Installs Windows
XP with New
WORLDOX 2000 SR-2 Release
Ridgewood, NJ - World Software Corporation announced today that its WORLDOX Document Management System ("DMS") has been successfully rolled out in a Windows XP environment "firm-wide" at PALMER & DODGE, a leading 500+ user Boston law firm. WORLDOX is the first DMS in the world to be installed with Windows XP in a firm-wide rollout of a major law firm. Windows XP was shipped officially on October 25, 2001. It is a fast, stable new operating system that is Microsoft's most important release in years.
Palmer & Dodge was an early adopter of Windows XP. It was one of only three companies worldwide with less than 5000 seats to whom Microsoft provided the "Release Code" along with full product activation prior to general availability.
Palmer, under the direction of I.T. Director Carl Easton, upgraded the firm's hardware and software to achieve a state-of-the-art technology environment. These major software, hardware and networking upgrades were timed to coincide with Palmer's office relocation from their One Beacon Street location to the new 111 building at Boston's Prudential Center in early November, 2001. The new hardware and technology introduced at the firm includes --
- 500 - Pentium 4, 1.7 GHz. Workstations, all with Windows XP
- 57 - File Servers, with Windows 2000 - Network Operating System
with "Active Directory"
- state-of-the-art implementation - Four (4) Windows 2000 WORLDOX Indexer workstations
- Microsoft Office - (migrating to Office XP in 2002)
Here's how it happened. Palmer configured one of their new Windows XP workstations with all of their software applications installed, and then sent the workstation to World Software. World's programmers made modifications to the WORLDOX/Windows XP integration to ensure successful operation.
"WORLDOX is flying - the speed of searches is terrific," said Carl Easton. WORLDOX is one of 175 applications at P&D and, according to Carl, "on the truly bright side, we did nothing here at all (to WORLDOX) and WORLDOX was the easiest application we had to deal with of our 175 applications."
